As lunch passes, the ASX200 is trading higher, up 23.87 points or +0.41% at 5,839.40 with the technology sector leading the gains up +1.26%, along with Health Care +1.06%. In Asia, the Nikkei is up +0.51% or 111.41 points at 21772.40 and the Hang Seng is down -0.16% or 56.71 points at 30774.11.
In corporate news, Fletcher Building shares have soared today on Wesfarmers bid talk. The company posted its biggest share gain in almost 20 years on Friday, following a media report that Australia's Wesfarmers Ltd, which is on the lookout for deals, has bought a small stake with an eye to a takeover.
Seven West Media shares are also popping higher after the company along with Foxtel (controlled by News Corp.) clinched the broadcast rights for Australian cricket, wrestling the country’s national sport from rival Nine Entertainment Co. (shares of Nine up currently +0.44%) for the first time in four decades.
