It was a wild week for US equities as the Dow fell 3.17%, the S&P 500 fell 4.18% and the Nasdaq fell 4.31%. Friday’s session added to the declines as all major indexes finished in red following a series of poor earnings from the big market players.

US Market Wrap 26 October 2018

US equities rose on Thursday as Wall Street recovered from a fall in the previous session that sent two of the major indexes into negative territory for the year. The Dow rose +1.63%, the S&P 500 rose 1.86%, and the Nasdaq was 2.95% better off.

US stocks seemed as though they were free falling in trading on Wednesday as Wall Street was slammed. The Dow erased earlier gains as Boeing reported before the market open with positive results that helped the stock finish higher by 1.47%. The Dow tumbled by more than 600 points falling 2.41%, the S&P 500 fell 3.09% and the Nasdaq declined 4.43% taking the largest hit and officially falling into correction territory.

In a trading day that was destined to open lower, US equities sharply fell on the open with the Dow down as much as 500 points in the first couple of hours of trading before markets recovered bouncing back to finish the session in negative territory on Tuesday. All major indexes were lower as the Dow -0.50%, S&P 500-0.55% and the Nasdaq -0.42%.

US stocks finished mixed on Friday with the Dow rising after a positive earnings release from Procter & Gamble whilst the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished in negative territory. The Dow rose +0.26%, the S&P 500 fell -0.04% and the Nasdaq fell -0.48%.

US stocks fell on Thursday as investors remained on edge in anticipation of a global market slump. The Dow fell more than 300 points continuing its struggling time in October with Consumer Discretionary and Technology stocks leading the losses. The Dow fell 1.27%, the S&P 500 fell 1.44% and the Nasdaq fell 2.06%. Thursday's declines has added to the market's losses for the month of October which continues to see Wall Street struggle as the Dow and S&P have fallen nearly 4%, whilst the Nasdaq is down nearly 7%, also known as the tech wreck. There was no chilling for Netflix shares as they fell 4.93%, Amazon shares fell 3.33% and Activision shares plummeted 8.29%

US equities fell on Wednesday as the Federal Reserve released the September meeting minutes suggesting at the continuation of the tightening of monetary policy in the future. The Dow wobbled after the news falling 91 points before finishing -0.36%, the S&P 500 -0.03% and the Nasdaq -0.04%.

US stocks rose sharply on Tuesday which helped the market recover from last week’s sell off, as investors digested the release of strong quarterly results from some of the larger companies. The Dow finished higher by 2.17%, the S&P 500 higher by 2.15% and the Nasdaq higher by 2.8%.

Stocks fell on Monday led by losses in technology shares as investors turned defensive and continued to fret over trade tensions, higher interest rates and geopolitical events. All three major indexes fell into negative territory as the close as the Dow -0.35%, the S&P 500 -0.88% and the Nasdaq -0.59%.

US Market Wrap 15 October 2018

US equities rose broadly on Friday as markets bounced back from steep losses recorded in past couple of trading sessions caused by the lingering fear of a trade war between China and the US combined with higher interest rates. The Dow finished +1.15%, the S&P 500 +1.42% and the Nasdaq +2.29%. Stocks traded in a volatile session as by midday the Dow had given up its 400 point gain to trade in negative territory before climbing higher into the close. Leading the Dow stocks were Visa shares rising 4.7 percent along with Walgreens Boots Alliance climbing 3.7 percent.
